The Right Time Management Strategy For You

Difficulty with managing time is something that countless individuals struggle with. As with anything in life, you will find it is important to track down an appropriate time management strategy that is ideal for your circumstances. Everyone is different and has different needs which is precisely why it is vital you take the time to try out different strategies.

The first time management strategy to give a go is to try planning each day out. Every morning start the day by sitting at your desk and writing out what you would like to accomplish and when you will begin the task. In addition, assign different time lengths for each task to ensure you do not spend too much time on any task.

Something that can be difficult for some is simply saying no to certain tasks. Because there is not enough time in the day to complete everything, there are going to be nonessential tasks that need to be turned down. This is where prioritization becomes crucial so you can determine what must be completed first.

An extremely effective time management strategy for many is breaking large tasks that are extremely time consuming into smaller tasks. When first looking at a large task, it can seem overwhelming and intimidating. By breaking it into several smaller tasks, it will seem manageable while allowing you to work on other tasks in-between to mix things up.

There will always be those certain tasks that no one wants to work on. The so-called dreaded tasks are so easy to push aside and keep putting off day after day. By practicing the 10-minute rule, you will be amazed at what can be accomplished. The 10-minute rule consists of spending 10 minutes at a time each day on a dreaded activity without going into it thinking you will finish. As soon as you get into the task, you may very well wrap it up.

Distractions are a killer for everyone. Whether it is watching television, jumping on Facebook to talk to friends, or texting non-stop, distractions will make it difficult to complete the tasks on your list. For this reason, a basic but difficult time management strategy to implement into your life is eliminating distractions as best as possible.

The final time management strategy that is a must is take a break when it is needed. Overworking yourself is only going to lead to you quitting sooner than later. There is no reason to add stress to your life by working too hard and too long on various tasks. When needed, take a walk, watch some television, or even take a day of vacation to rest and rejuvenate your mind and body.
